About

Welcome to our webpage! We are the Student Workshop Initiative, and we organize international workshops for young researchers working in the field of integrability. You can read about the new edition or previous editions below. Do you have any questions, are you interested in supporting the initiative, or do you want to take part in the organization of future editions? Contact us via email, we will reach out to you as soon as possible.

Our Logos are designed and created by our graphic designer Gert Vercleyen. The Louvain Logo shows the Yang-Baxter Equation, the Wuppertal one is associated with the Temperley-Lieb algebra, while the Hannover Logo is a double projection of the E6 Root Lattice. The Amsterdam logo shows the star-triangle relation and the Bad Honnef one depicts invariant tori. The latest Budapest logo is based on quantum circuits. The lettering alludes to the famous Bethe-Ansatz-Equations.

New edition: Ljubljana 2026

Register now!

The next edition will be held from June 15th to 19th at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. There is no participation fee, but participants need to cover their own travel and accommodation costs. Registration is now open; the deadline to register is May 1st.

  • Anahita Sarvi (Amsterdam)

with support from Super Sascha and Fabulous Fred.

Previous editions

In 2025, the workshop took place in Budapest, Hungary. We again had three lecture series by senior researchers supplemented by student talks and posters. We also took the opportunity to explore the city and visit the thermal baths.

Invited Speakers

  • Rafael Nepomechie: Exact quantum state preparation
  • Katja Klobas: Quantum non-equilibrium dynamics with classical determinist circuits
  • Andrea De Luca: Exact out-of-equilibrium dynamics with random unitary circuits

Funding

In 2024, we held a Bad Honnef Physics School at the DPG Physikzentrum in Bad Honnef, Germany. In this old mansion, our 68 participants enjoyed three lecture series accompanied by student talks and poster presentations.

We also took advantage of the beautiful weather to hike to the top of the famous "Drachenfels" (Dragon Mountain). Unfortunately (or fortunately), we missed the dragon, though.

Invited Speakers

  • Olalla Castro-Alvaredo: An Introduction to the Form Factor Program in Integrable Quantum Field Theories
  • Benjamin Doyon: Introduction to Generalised Gibbs Ensembles and Generalised Hydrodynamics
  • Veronique Terras: Separation of Variables, Form Factors and Correlation Functions

Amsterdam 2023

In 2023, we had the privilege of hosting our first workshop in Amsterdam, Netherlands, free from any COVID-19 restrictions. This event saw a remarkable gathering of 60 participants who contributed to a wealth of fascinating talks and posters. In addition to the scientific sessions, we embarked on a memorable journey through Amsterdam's iconic canals by kayak.

Invited Speakers

  • Jacopo de Nardis: Hydrodynamics and fluctuations in integrable and quasi-integrable systems
  • Didina Serban: Long range interacting models and integrability

  • Sascha Gehrmann (Hannover)
  • Rebekka Koch (Amsterdam)

Kayaking

In 2022, the first in-person workshop in two years was held in Hannover. Due to COVID restrictions, the number of in-person participants was limited to 30. To compensate for this, the event was held in a hybrid format so that further participants could join online and be given the opportunity to speak.

We took advantage of the good weather to explore the Royal Gardens as a socializing event. Under the social distancing requirements, the conference dinner was also held. For the virtual participants online tools from previous editions were used.

Invited Speakers

  • Vladimir Korepin: Lattice nonlinear Schroedinger equation and applications
  • Tomaz Prosen: Integrable matrix models in discrete space-time: A paradigm of Kardar-Parisi-Zhang physics
  • Balázs Pozsgay: Solvable models in discrete space-time

Wuppertal (online) 2021

Program

Due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 workshop in Wuppertal was cancelled on short notice. The edition was held online in 2021. Despite the online format, it attracted a great deal of interest. We used online tools to replicate the atmosphere of an in-person edition as much as possible.

Invited Speakers

  • Andreas Klümper: Thermodynamics and Finite-Size Studies of integrable Models: From TBA equations to reduced non-linear Integral equations
  • Olalla Castro-Alvaredo: Entanglement Measures, Integrability and Out-of-Equilibrium Dynamics

  • Aleksandra Ziolkowska (Oxford)

The first Student Workshop on Integrability was held in Louvain-la-Neuve in 2019. The idea to organize an event for young researchers, by young researchers, originated during a summer school in Les Houches in 2018. Three participants made the decision to fill this gap. The format met with a very positive response from the community and so it has continued over the years

Invited Speakers

  • Jean-Sebastien Caux: Integrability: From angels on pins to concrete phenomenology

Organizers

  • Phillip Jaeger (Manitoba/Wuppertal)
  • Gilles Parez (Louvain)
